Broadening the smile

Sunshine Smile Day...

Saturday 19th May 2018....

8am to 5pm......

ASDA superstore....
Milton Keynes.....

We have been changing the plan !  We have been widening the smiles. This blog shares the new planning with all taking part.

The weather forecast for Saturday 19th May is OK. With a Plan B to move inside the supermarket we are going to set up in ONE single place outside at the food hall entrance.  This gives us a far bigger area to work with and enables us to offer the participating good causes a greater potential to present the work they do.

So everyone taking part please read this page.....

We do have a meeting at ASDA this morning so there may be some slight revision but this is the plan as it stands right now.

To the left of the entrance will be our sponsor's van .... Heslop's Removals.  This will provide a base for the music
and a changing room. The music stage will be in front of the van.

Providing we can sort the poles out !  It's not been used for several months !  We will set up a gazebo tent at a location to be agreed with Asda.

We will be building our mountain of food in a prime position at the front of the entrance, exact location to be agreed with Asda this morning.

Our good causes can, if they wish, set up SMALL tables to decorate and use as bases to promote their work.

RACHEL will be in overall charge of the day.

RACHEL and JOSH will provide hospitality for the mayor
and poet laureate.

BEN will be in charge of the sound stage.

JELENA will be in charge of front of house activities.

MAGGIE will be in charge of the food bank collection.

DAVID will be in charge of the collecting buckets and photography.

TERRI will coordinate special activities.

CHARLOTTE will be in charge of the sponsored haircut.

We will start setting up at six thirty. It is IMPORTANT that all particpiting good causes are set up and ready to run by

Our food mountain will be running all day. We need to kick start this with at least one hundred tins so
PLEASE will to help by donating a tin or two AHEAD of Sunshine Smile Day.

NO OBLIGATION but it would be nice if each group brought along a couple of tins at the start of the day. PLEASE.....

Ronald McDonald House Charities, specifically the Birmingham House is our lead charity for the day.

There will be a coin spinner in a strategic location throughout the day.

ADSA has a £200 cheque for the house from its Green Token Scheme. This will be added to the collection of cash for the charity. The plan is for Asda to present it to the Mayor at 11am. We will today contact the local branch of McDonald's and ask if they would like to send a representative along to receive
the cheque with the mayor.

This coin spinner has to be collected from the Westcroft branch of McDonald's at half past six then returned at the end of the day. WE NEED SOMEONE TO HELP OUT WITH THIS JOB. Please could you do this ?

BEN will be overseeing the sound stage and has arranged
for a disco to provide the music. Much of the music, we have decided, will be rock and roll. OK this goes back a few generations but it is fun, happy and smiling people friends of ALL ages will enjoy.

GARY has a stage we could use as an alternative to the one we plan to borrow from West Bletchley Community
Centre. Ben, could you decide which you would like to use.

We will take along our vinyl deck as a back up and something we can use for a PA.

Throughout the day Jelena will be looking after a variety of events.

We will be handing out balloons and sweets. We will be handing out Radio Love International fliers.

We will be handing out information to promote the blood and organ transplant programmes.

We need donations of sweets to hand out. (Please make sure sweets are individually wrapped.)
As well as the balloons we will blow up with AIR we have some special balloons which we will inflate with helium.

We have one special LOVE balloon. All of these will have Sunshine Smile Day logos attached.

At 4pm we plan to let these rise into the sky.

Throughout the day we will be holding a cake raffle. This will also be drawn at 4pm.

Red Bull F1 Racing have given us a cap autographed by drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen.  Wings For Live, the chosen charity of Red Bull,
have given us a tee shirt and a few other bits and pieces. We will be selling raffle tickets for these during the day. This raffle will also be
drawn at 4pm.

After serving our community for eighteen years Gladstone Mckenzie lost his seat on the council at the recent election. As a THANK YOU to Gladstone for all of his loving hard work over the years we will be asking hin to draw the two raffles and release the balloons.

All of this will happen at the sound stage.

As well as the rock and roll music we will be inviting local musicians to take to the stage and entertain Asda's shoppers.

The rock and roll music will change style at 11am when our city's mayor arrives.

We will be going HIPPIE.

With Mayor Petchey making the first snip Charlotte will be cutting David's
hair. he has been growing this for eight months, he took his hair to hippie park in San Francisco and will now be having it cut off to support the good causes taking part in Sunshine Smile Day.

Collecting buckets will be out and about all day. At the end of the day our featured good causes will receive EQUAL shares of the cash the kind shoppers at Asda toss in.

With the larger area now available to us ALL of our chosen charities can use ALL of the day to promote what they do. Charities are invited to bring along a small table to use as a base. Please decorate our table and make it attractive. Although ALL charities can promote themselves ALL day we will still keep the slots where they can use the music stage to tell people what they are about.

8am... The Food Bank
9am... Willen Hospice Family Fun Day
10am... Emilia's Helmet Appeal
11am... Jo's Hope
12noon... Virgin Atlantic's We Change
1pm... Wings For Life
2pm... Ronald McDonald House Charities
3pm ... Sheffield Wednesday's Community Programme

At 2pm the music will change to something SILLY ! This will
be our music tombola to support Ronald McDonald House in Birmingham.

McDonald Restaurants have donated 100 half price meal vouchers, Bunnings/Homebase have donated lots and lots of toys for the music tombola.

HOWEVER, we do not have enough prizes. Would you like to donate some ?

Having a much bigger space within which to work we can now let all good causes promote themselves all day. We still need to have our terms and conditions in place but have been able to make some revisions.

Terms and conditions for  all of those taking part ?

Terms and Conditions probably sounds a bit  fierce but with so many different people, charities and good causes involved in Sunshine Smile Day some guidelines are needed.

It is essential that we all work together as one team to enjoy the music, have fun, make people smile and support our various charities and good causes. Nobody can be allowed to upstage anyone else or seek to take advantage of contacts and supports an individual group has.

Collection of tins and packets for The Food Bank will be running throughout the day.

Ronald McDonald House Charities, as Rebekah's chosen charity, is the lead charity for Sunshine Smile Day and will have its own coin spinner in place.

Collecting buckets for Ronald McDonald House Charities, Jo's Hope, Willen Hospice Family Fun Day, Emilia's Helmet Appeal, Wings For Life, Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme and We Change will be out on the floor all day. At the end of the day money will be counted and verified. We will publish the total within twenty four hours. Money will then be paid to the participating groups within seven days.

On line donations via Just Giving will be processed at a time arranged by Just Giving.

Each good cause/charity is required to advise the organisers of Sunshine Smile Day where the money has been specifically used.

David's sponsored haircut is happening for ALL good causes and charities featured in Sunshine Smile Day. The Mayor of Milton Keynes is attending for this event.

Significant media interest is building for Sunshine Smile Day. This will be managed by the organisers and not by individual charities/good causes.

We have posters available to advertise the day. We ask participating good causes to download copies, print them and put them on display.

Good causes and charities sending helpers to the day but have their own public liability insurance for these helpers.

Persons under the age of sixteen years are welcome to attend and help within Sunshine Smile Day. If a parent is not in attendance the good cause/charity they are working with must obtain in writing permission from a parent for them to attend. This must be presented to the organisers before the young person starts working.

Car parking at Asda is time restricted. AHEAD OF SUNSHINE SMILE DAY anyone bringing a vehicle into the car park needs to let us have the registration number so Asda can take the vehicle out of its restriction.
